An intelligent adaptive participant's presumption protocol for atomic commitment in distributed databases
نویسنده
چکیده
The objective of the original ‘adaptive participant’s presumption protocol’ (AP) was to achieve the performance advantages of one-phase commit protocols, whenever possible, and, at the same time, the wide applicability of two-phase commit protocols. Specifically, AP operates as a one-phase commit protocol for the commit processing of a transaction so long as the transaction is not associated with the validation of any deferred consistency constraints. But, when a transaction is associated with the validation of deferred consistency constraints that need to be synchronised at commit time of the transaction, AP dynamically switches to the most appropriate two-phase commit variant. However, providing further intelligence to enhance the performance and applicability of the original AP is expected to make it a highly appealing choice for adoption in the design of future distributed database management systems. This is the essence of the ‘intelligent AP’ that extends the basic AP in two directions: efficiency and applicability.

Extending the Intelligent Adaptive Participant’s Presumption Protocol to the Multi-level Distributed Transaction Execution Model
The “intelligent adaptive participant’s presumption protocol” (iAP 3 ) is an integrated atomic commit protocol. It interoperates implicit yes-vote, which is a one-phase commit protocol, besides presumed abort and presumed commit, the most commonly pronounced two-phase commit protocol variants. The aim of this combination is to achieve the performance advantages of one-phase commit protocols, on...
متن کاملAtomic Commitment in Grid Database Systems
Atomic Commitment Protocol (ACP) is an important part for any distributed transaction. ACPs have been proposed for homogeneous and heterogeneous distributed database management systems (DBMS). ACPs designed for these DBMS do not meet the requirement of Grid databases. Homogeneous DBMS are synchronous and tightly coupled while heterogeneous DBMS, like multidatabase systems, requires a top layer ...
متن کاملExploiting Atomic Broadcast in Replicated Databases
Database replication protocols have historically been built on top of distributed database systems, and have consequently been designed and implemented using distributed transactional mechanisms, such as atomic commitment. We argue in this paper that this approach is not always adequate to e ciently support database replication and that more suitable alternatives, such as atomic broadcast primi...
متن کاملA Unilateral Commit Protocol for Mobile and Disconnected Computing
Databases are hosted by a growing number of lightweight intelligent devices like palmtops, cellular phones, car computers and even smart cards. Mobility and disconnected computing are two major issues in such environment. This paper deals with the way databases can be exploited in this context while maintaining a strong transactional coherency. More precisely, we argue that 2PC, the most well k...
متن کاملAdaptive Protection Based on Intelligent Distribution Networks with the Help of Network Factorization in the Presence of Distributed Generation Resources
Factorizing a system is one of the best ways to make a system intelligent. Factorizing the protection system, providing the right connecting agents, and transmitting the information faster and more reliably can improve the performance of a protection system and maintain system reliability against distributed generation resources. This study presents a new method for coordinating network protect...
